About the role

Are you an experienced Switchboard Designer looking to join a leading company in the electrical manufacturing industry? Based in our modern manufacturing facility in Edinburgh, Mayfield is seeking a full-time Switchboard Designer to join our team. This role performs complex design assignments on switchboards, entailing the review and incorporation of technical specifications and relevant standards. Initiative with investigation and research skills will be a key to success. 

The Switchboard Designer partners with and supports the Lead Switchboard Designer in the delivery of projects for clients in the following industries: 

• Renewable Energy 
• Infrastructure
• Power Generation & Transmission
• Water & Wastewater
• Mining
• Heavy Industry
• Minerals & Metals Processing
• Oil & Gas

What you'll be doing

• Perform CAD design and drafting on distribution, motor control switchboards, control and other panels.
• Define and recommend specifications and performance or functional requirements for new projects.
• Work to automate repetitive design tasks by using innovative solutions and developing customised design tools in CAD programs and spreadsheets.
• Assist in the development and continuous improvement to achieve truly ‘Modular’ Switchboard design, systems and processes.
• Collaborate in reviewing and refining work practices to bring improved efficiencies in design, construction methods and materials usage.
• Undertake or assist in the preparation of feasibility studies, surveys and reports, design layouts, specifications, bills of quantities and materials lists.
• Carry out factory inspections and liaise with suppliers, clients or engineers concerning the design, installation, construction and commissioning of assigned work.

What we're looking for

• Relevant degree/ trade qualifications in Electrical/ Engineering/ Switchboard Design 
• Proven experience in switchboard design/ switchboard assembly/ project engineering
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong communication and teamwork skills 
• Ability to work independently, work under pressure, and manage multiple tasks effectively
