About the program:

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

Your responsibilities will include:

Functional Baseline Lead on AIR6500 Program will work within the Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) team. You shall manage AIR6500 system requirements and support broader AIR6500 Systems Engineering activities.

In this role, the Systems Engineer - Functional Baseline Lead will:

  • Elicit and develop system functional requirements from Air Battle Management concepts, risk reduction exercises and Commonwealth needs.
  • Elicit and develop internal & external interface requirements and system non-functional requirements.
  • Conduct workshops and working groups with the customer, SMEs to elicit System requirements and design as required.
  • Lead Requirements Working Groups.
  • Manage the system and sub-system level requirements baseline including traceability.
  • Contribute requirements analysis activities with adjacent Systems Engineering disciplines including System Design, Verification & Validation, Support System, and Specialty Engineering.
  • Shaping and reporting metrics for requirements stability and achievability.
  • Support the Major System Reviews relevant to AIR6500.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Degree qualifications in a relevant Engineering Discipline or relevant industry experience.
  • Substantial experience with Requirements Elicitation and Requirements Analysis.
  • Substantial experience with the systems engineering lifecycle and methodologies.
  • Substantial experience managing requirements baselines for ASDEFCON complex programs.
  • Good exposure to requirements development, decomposition and tracing to system models.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and collaborate across teams.
  • An Australian NV-1 security clearance and ability to access/handle Export Controlled technology, data and information.
  • Good exposure of Model Based Systems Development (MBSD) and Model Based Engineering (MBE) principles (DoDAF or SysML) is desirable but not essential.
