Workshop Manager - Aerospace- CNC Machining and Fabrication
Coastal Aviation is currently seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to join our team and work on the beautiful Sunshine Coast Queensland. At Coastal Aviation, we pride ourselves on our advanced in-house manufacturing capabilities, which include CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication, welding, painting and assembly of components. We are seeking a skilled Workshop Manager to contribute to our mission of excellence in aircraft component manufacturing and maintenance.

About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced and energetic professional with a solid background in machining and fabrication, combined with a proven track record in fast-paced supervisory roles. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to step into the position of Workshop Manager, with potential growth into a senior Production Management role. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of CNC machining and fabrication, along with a history of holding positions such as Production Assistant or Production Supervisor in a manufacturing environment.
The role requires a strong team player who works well with management, listens to team members, and fosters a collaborative work environment. You will enjoy regular interaction with both our production and technical staff, playing a crucial role in Coastal Aviation’s continued success as we approach our thirtieth year of manufacturing in Australia.
As Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our CNC machining and fabrication areas. Reporting directly to the Production Manager, you will work closely with the team to ensure efficient production. You’ll be prepared to roll up your sleeves and step into the machining and fabrication areas as needed, providing hands-on support to ensure smooth and efficient operations at all times.
Following a 12-month training and familiarisation period, you will serve as key support to the Production Manager, stepping in during their absence. You will take on responsibilities such as coordinating daily production activities, managing raw material inventory and supporting production scheduling.
This is a full-time position with a 38-hour workweek and early knock-off on Fridays.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Scheduling and Staff Coordination
Procurement of Raw Materials, consumables and tooling
Generate detailed working drawings and 3D models for machining and fabrication, using Fusion 360 (or similar), in accordance with production specifications and manufacturing requirements.
Review and validate data and drawings to ensure accuracy. Prepare and set up traveller worksheets, ensuring all necessary information for production is included.
Provide hands-on assistance with sheet-metal fabrication, welding and CNC machining as needed to ensure smooth production processes.
Receiving and despatch of goods and materials
Conduct QC Inspections of components to ensure compliance with quality standards, technical drawings, and data. Use calibrated precision tools (e.g., Vernier Calipers, Micrometers) to accurately verify dimensions and tolerances.
Required Skills:
Proven experience within the CNC machining environment and metal fabrication environment or a similar technical field.
Proven experience with CAD/CAM software (eg. Fusion 360, Mastercam, SolidWorks).
Computer literate – must be conversant with Office 365.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications at a high level.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
Attention to Detail - Ability to ensure the accuracy and clarity of technical information.
Strong Communication Skills - Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills for clear and effective information sharing.
The ability to work within a close-knit team.
Highly Desirable:
Experience in the aviation manufacturing sector.
Experience in quality control and quality documentation.
