Allcon Steel Construction is seeking a skilled Metallurgist/ Welding Engineer & QAQC Manager to join our team. This role involves overseeing welding processes, ensuring quality control, and managing the QAQC department.
• Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
• Oversee Welder Qualification processes, ensuring competence, certifications, and continuity records meet project and code requirements.
• Provide expert guidance on welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, etc.).
• Resolve complex welding technical issues and ensure adherence to industry standards and client specifications.
• Lead the QA/QC team in implementing and maintaining a robust quality management system aligned with ISO 9001.
• Develop Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, NCR processes, and corrective action plans.
• Oversee inspection activities including visual inspection, NDT coordination, dimensional checks, and surface quality for AESS finishes.
• Ensure compliance with CC2/ CC3/ CC4 steel fabrication standards in accordance with AS/NZS 5131, AS 1554.1, AS 1554.4, NACE MR0175, API 6A, 16C, BS EN, EEMUA or relevant local requirements.
• Provide technical leadership for all welding and quality-related matters throughout project lifecycles.
• Support shop fabrication, site erection, and pre-commissioning activities.
• Liaise with clients, third-party inspectors, and regulatory bodies on technical and quality matters.
• Lead the preparation, review, and submission of Manufacturing Data Records (MDRs) and project quality dossiers.
• Ensure all welding records, inspection reports, material certificates, and compliance documentation are complete and traceable.
• Maintain accurate and auditable project documentation systems.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives in welding processes, inspection techniques, and quality management systems.
• Provide training and mentoring for welding engineers, QC inspectors, and fabrication personnel.
• Conduct internal audits, risk assessments, and root-cause analyses
• Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree in Welding Engineering/ Technology or related
discipline.
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience in heavy steel fabrication, shipbuilding and
welding engineering, or equivalent high-specification projects.
• Extensive experience with WPS/PQR development, Welder Qualification, and
welding process control.
• Strong background in QA/QC management within steel fabrication environments.
• Practical experience with AESS fabrication requirements.
• In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 3834, AWS D1.1, ASME IX, ASME B31.3,
DNV, ABS, LR, Shell DEP or equivalent international standards.
• Proven experience preparing MDRs and managing project quality documentation.
Essential:
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng – Engineers Australia),
• IWE/EWE (International Welding Engineer), or equivalent certification.
• CSWIP 3.2.1 Senior Welding Inspector Certification,
• NDT Level II qualifications (MT, PT, UT, RT).
• Experience in EPC, infrastructure, or major industrial projects.
• WA Driving License or equivalent
